Engine shows flashes of Genius, but still a work in progress..right now poor time mgmt is the main issue (Windows 10 x64 CPU)... Cool

Thanks for the games. I will take a closer look over the weekend.  I normally use a Ryzen 2700X (8 cores) with a RTX 2080Ti GPU and have been getting great results using the T30 nets.

Just a few questions: what network were you using? Was it the 112x9-se distilled network (I saw your earlier posts on Talkchess)?

I read your comment that the engine was handling time management better with the Lokasoft GUI when using CPU.  Did you use the Lokasoft GUI for this test? Fritz GUI? Cutechess GUI?

On an unrelated note: how in the world did McCain X2a get swept by Scorpio 2.7 ja in the 2019 World KO Engine Tournament!? Very Happy Say it ain't so!

Seriously, enjoy your tournaments.
Cheers,

Just made this mini-tournament... Lc0 was often in advantage just to drop all of it in the endings, most probably because it was short in time. Neural Network used: 44000.

Thanks for the encouragement! Mccain X2 losing the Scorpio 2.7 cluster...? Losses caused by poor time mgmt in the Fritz/chessbase gui.....new code and all the opening books..(book1 book2 book3 etc) cause engine to use horrendous amounts of opening book time added a bit of extra time (6 min vs 5 and 10sec vs 5 for LC0 time issues) but McCain X2 & X3 Sugar ICCF and a few others waste most of their early time and just start "blitzing it out when under 20 seconds" causing some unbelievable upsets and losses...Sugar 1.6.1 was able to get through quite a few round with this problem though..dunno.. Very Happy Wink

Yep...same issue....huge problem with Chessbase gui.......LC0 plays "perfectly" in the Chess OK Aquarium with almost no time losses....(Rybka or Houdini Aquarium)......worth a close look for testing LC0 Wink Very Happy

That's because you have a poor hardware. A strong processor and a very powerful graphical card are required to run properly Lc0. I guess mine is near the minimum required: NVidia GeForce 780 Ti OC. Lc0 is strong on a GeForce 2080 with at least a Skylake processor.

I apologize but I had to interrupt the streaming as there were technicsl issues. Ass soon as I can aI will try again.

Just use an 1 move opening book avoiding 1.e4. You can also set a standard opening book and set Up To Move 1 and marking 1.e4 as Don't play in tournament.

I own dual XEON 8160 platinum and 1050TI graphics card , how strong could Lc0 be? Is it a matter more of a good GPU ?

Yes, definitely. Download and install the CUDA version. Today I have lost one game for time with Lc0. This engine is not (yet) made for short time matches. If you play 5 minutes forget it.

Is it better to use SLI 2x 1050 TI or to go for 1x1060 or 1070 in order to get a more powerful Lc0?

You'll find the answer on the benchmarks of the graphic cards, although I guess it will be hard to find a bench with a paired 1050 Ti...

LC0-Leela0-LeelaFish Games (CPU) Empty Lc0 and GPU

Post  kingspawn on Mon Jul 15, 2019 7:26 am

Hello everybody,

I tried Lc0 on the same network having the same GPU (GTX 1050 TI) but with different CPU and it performs the same !?!
a) XEON X5670 6-core
b) Dual XEON Platinum 8160 , 48C /96 Threads

(Stockfish has around 12000 Kn/ Sec on 1366 socket and more than 85.000 KN/sec on dual XEON )

I guess it is a matter of GPU and only.
Has anybody tried GTX 1060 /1070 or RTX 2060 ? Could you please inform how many Kn/sec does it score?

Yes, of course! 96threads produce less than 1Kn/sec on the initial position.....

Yes latest CUDA version and latest driver. The CPU does not matter, as it seems. I think that with the same grafic card will perform the same with 775 socket CPU.
I will test it and post. I also tried the CPU version which is too slow also
