Fritz 16 missing 64bit engine Empty Fritz 16 missing 64bit engine

I just installed Fritz 16, both 32 and 64bit versions. I also updated to the latest updates.
I saw the 64bit engine is missing, is that normal? If you start the 64bit Fritz 16, shouldn't be there the 64bit engine?

Here is a screenshot:

Hello again, Steinitz!

Are you using an older computer for Fritz 16 GUI?

64 bit Fritz 16 engine requires POPCOUNT or BMI2 instruction chipset. This might be your problem. The installer bypassed 64 bit engine due to this.

Here is 64 bit Fritz 16 engine extracted from Update 17:

Yes I just checked. You are right. I just opened update 17 with 7zip, and there I saw the 32 and 64bit engine. So the updater recognizes that my cpu does not support those instructions, and simply does not installs the 64bit engine, right?

Yes.

I have just reproduced your issue using an old AMD Athlon Dual Core 4850e with Windows 7 64 bit OS. No POPCOUNT chipset. Install of GUI went fine, but no 64 bit Fritz 16 engine due chipset being non-POPCOUNT/BMI2.

Fritz 16 is mediocre engine anyway. Division 3 in TCEC. Probably get destroyed by Stockfish or Lc0 in a long match. Not great for analysis either.

How stupid. They could include a non-POPCOUNT/BMI2 64bit engine in the game/updates, as most of the free and commercial chess engines offer a "plain" 64bit engine and additionally the POPCOUNT/BMI2 engines.

I agree with you Steinitz.

You would think that when a person spends 70 euros on the GUI, one would get a 64 bit version of the engine that runs on older CPUs.

Vas has improved the engine somewhat, but it is still well behind AB engines Stockfish/derivitives, Houdini and Komodo (to name a few). And well behind Lc0, Allie and Leelenstein. I bet it would lose a match to Scorpio Maddex as well.

Fritz engine is not very useful for serious analysis either.
